AVRepair has over 35 years of experience in the electronics service industry and we've been repairing JVC camcorders since they were first manufactured back in the '80's. With quality service and workmanship guarantees for both parts and labor, you'll get more usage out of your camcorder, and more bang for your buck.

You can find our labor rates here, so the only question would be the cost of parts. Once your unit is on the bench, we'll be able to determine just that, and contact you with all of the costs involved, and how long your unit's stay with us will be - all before any charges become due.

Here are some common JVC Error codes:

E01 Tape load / unload time-out E02 Supply reel error
E03 Take-up error E04 Cylinder error
E06 Capstan error No Picture in Camera mode
Camcorder Eats Tapes Dew Detected

E01 Tape load / unload time-out  ^ Top

Generally it's a mechanical problem, with defective gears/ levers in the tape loading mechanism. You can expect to pay major labor for this type of repair. Parts are nominal.

E02 Supply reel error  ^ Top

Most common in the Mini-DV models. This problem can be defective reel tables, or it can also be a defective rotary encoder. You can expect to pay intermediate to major labor for this type of repair. Parts are nominal.

E03 Take-up error  ^ Top

Most common in the Mini-DV models. This problem can be defective reel tables, or it can also be a defective rotary encoder. You can expect to pay intermediate to major labor for this type of repair. Parts are nominal.

E04 Cylinder error  ^ Top

Very common in older models. Problem can be due to cold solder. Other times the drum itself can be bad, and on rare occasions the circuitry is involved. Labor is intermediate to major, plus the cost of the drum if needed.

We can use Brand NEW parts or we can use 'Good Used' parts and save you a lot of money. Good used parts are taken from cameras that have other problems. We don't use junk, and if we wouldn't put in our personal camera - we certainly wouldn't offer it to you. We warranty the used parts for six months. If we have used available, we'll give you the option of using either.

E06 Capstan error  ^ Top

Generally either a defective capstan motor, or cold solder connections. Since the soldering process is surface mount technology, the repair is both tedious and time consuming, labor can be intermediate to major.

No Picture in Camera mode (All models)  ^ Top

Can be a defective CCD imager, a defective lens, or electrical connections that have been broken. Depending upon which of these your camcorder has, labor will vary between minor to major.

Camcorder Eats Tapes  ^ Top

Defective idler assembly, reel table, or debris on the tape path. Incorrect back tension. Labor is intermediate to major, with parts averaging $65.00.

Dew Detected  ^ Top

Either a defective dew sensor, or cold solder. Can also require replacing entire assemblies. You can expect to pay intermediate to major labor. Parts can be as little as $20, and it goes up from there.

How much do you charge for estimates?  ^ Top

The estimate fee is $30.00, and is waived if your unit is repaired. That's fair, isn't it?

How much do you charge for return shipping?  ^ Top

We generally use UPS to do all of our shipping.  Their rates are a little higher than Priority Mail, but the cost of insurance is much less than that of the USPS.  On average, return shipping with insurance costs between $15 - $20.  This includes a buck for the new box, bubble bag, and packing material. For the heavier, more expensive cameras, return shipping costs do increase, depending upon both their weight, and value.
